Category: Type me!!!
This was a comment before. But its about my uncertainity with Socionics and all typing systems, because of my uncertainity with my type. Please read, it would be so helpful to have new perspective. Its very long, but there is alot to it that you might have thought of, but never gotten far in trying to fully understand. [[[[[[[[Well, I'm an INT-something, or something something rather; who knows what? You sound like your preference as being an INTJ is clean-enough cut. Good for you. I'm going to be 17 soon and from when I was 14-15, I wasted my life contemplating socionics. Socionics is an interesting structure to such a grabbing concept. Most of the people who are on here for so long must be strong INTJs, maybe I am too, I'm just deficient and don't understand and comprehend things well enough, so I have to adopt the seeking behaviors of other types. I used to be really shy, wouldn't talk to anyone, but I love attention and I love people, I love it when people like me. But I'm in-my-own-head and shy all the same, I'm a freakin' mess. I scored INTP almost everytime I took the socionics test, but I fit the notion of dominant Ti better than Ni I think, though I get confused and am never sure. I'm super serious and intense; at my best I can appear very casual but still extremely intense, and have learned to be Chameleon-like in many different settings. I can never commit to anything. I also don't get good grades, and can talk intelligently and understand alot of things(though math is tricky unless it has to do with Classical Music) to an extent that I could be most genuinely thoughtful sounding speaker in a good sized collection of people. But I'm lazy and useless, in some ways I feel incredibly stupid. But, but but, but, I feel like I have a characteristic perspective to me that is very rare, and gives me the potential for a lot of ego and a lot of humility all the same, but coexisting and conflicting. Tangents. Well, my goal was to offer you some perspective, usually I have some pretty unusual perspectives. Socionics, I don't get it, I more about it than most people who claim to get it know, but, I don't have a type to confidently call my own. So, either I discredit it, or stubbornly hope it will work.]]]]]]]] What do you guys think? Do I just have ambiguous preferences, am I a confused member of a distinct type, or is Socionics just not that deeply applicable and somewhat faulty and not very scientific? Thats my current story with Socionics as best as I will be able to describe it right now. Don't call me any type please unless you are totally convinced and think you can sort of ADD to my knowledge, and NOT indescriminately OVERIDE it. In someways, Ne seems to be me because I like really wierd things and I indulgently dig into any concept I come across(I think refinement between intuition types is concept of faulty logic, its all the same..prove me wrong?). I'm also very charismatic when in a good mood, but I often feel like I have a puny presence. I don't think I'm "right brained" enough to be an ENTP. INTP, they seem too rigid and strategic at the expense of deep understanding. ENTJs are too tough and regular. INFJs, too naturally tranquil. INFPs, I can't manipulate my emotions very quickly. ENFPs, I'm too slow witted, even though I love social things, plus I'm too deep. ENFJs, too good socially and too energetic. INTJs, too linnear, but maybe that how I was born and I grew around it. ISTJs, too practicle. ISTPs too cool and cold. ISFJs, god, sometimes I feel dangerously close to being one, they describe them so much as what I aspire not to be but might actually be deep down; they are so lamely described, I have a strong mind! ISFPs, maybe when I have some twisted perspective, I'll believe it, same for all other unmentioned sensates. Please Help People, try my thinking on, if you think you have the type for me nailed, go for it. If you can't decide, start thinking about what I could actually be in a more flexible sense. I don't know what I mean really, just use your intuition to give me a wholesome, truly wholesome answer if you can. -- Grant

A21 Grant, I read most of your posts once again and a new element has started to appear in them, Se. To me, you seem the happiest when you can be charming, encourage people, provoke them to act, move fast, have deep feelings but not show them. Is that right? Actually, this "face" of yours is quite different from the INp one you showed at the beginning. Well at least you definitely behave more and more like an extrovert. (I have noticed that only ESps take part in the discussions they started here by putting in brief and factual questions like you do.) So if you are still interested in finding out what your type is, maybe consider being an ESFp after all? I suggest this also because you obviously understand my posts perfectly, you even perceive me the way I would like other people to perceive me. And reading your last long post, I had a weird feeling as if I myself have written it. It describes me! The attitude to school subjects, the sensitivity to violence, moving the body so as to move the mind, gaping and listening, etc.etc. I even used to like Isaac Assimov. All in all, this doesnt look like we are in different quadras. - As to your questions, I am from the Czech Republic, central Europe, and I have lived in Latvia for several months. I used to study and teach English, hence my writing style, influenced by British scholarly essays, which might be the reason for me not sounding like an ESFp. Maybe if I was writing in Czech I would sound different. Now I am a lettonist by profession, that is, a scholar that specializes in language and culture of Latvia. I come from a highly intellectual background and now work at a university. I enjoy the academic environment but I am considered the crazy and practical one there. I am also much more prone to chatting happily with blue-collar workers than my colleagues are. So I oscillate between two environments, being too down-to-earth for one and too educated for the other. That might be why my reflections dont sound 100% appropriate anywhere, except to my mother and some INTp friends. Also, Czech Republic is a country of great humour, but not so much of encouraging people in general. But I dont mind much. - I have been thinking about the functions and I havent arrived at a description that describes them in all, but here are two notes: 1) I used to think wholistic and implicit understanding is a matter of Ti, but now I think it is one of the priorities of Fi, too. Only Fi is better at understanding nature, emotions, aesthetics, people or arts. And ultimately, all intelligent people crave understanding, not only effectivity, regardless of their type. Te is not only effectivity, it also means understanding, but the kind of understanding that can be explained step-by-step and using clear terms. 2) As to N versus S, my view is that N is a kind of perception not so much dependent on the material world as S. Thats why S people have better potential for practical professions, because they can concentrate solely on their material work not being bothered by non-material perception sources like books, their fellow workers opinions or their own ideas. While Ns are more frequent at universities because they have the ability to focus exclusively on perceiving theories, ideas, arts etc. not letting themselves be bothered by the bad air, their stomach, practical worries etc. Well, hope this helps. -- Ezis (ESFp)

A22 Hi Krig. Firstly, I totally agree with your classification of me as INTj based on the sorts of words I use and my logical analysis (well hey, my attempt at it, in any case). Thing is, a lot of that is a conscious effort on my part to not be too subjective, and to present my arguments clearly...I keep my grammar precise because, as with all skills, it deteriorates if you don't practise it regularly. The approach you describe of whittling possibilities down to one logical conclusion - that's a skill I'm taught to do as a science student. My use of words like 'verity' and 'salient' is probably something I've picked up from academia (altho maybe it's to do with my personality as well). Basically, my point is a lot of those reasoning and language traits displayed in my posts are things that I've picked up on from my studies, not things that are 'natural' to me. I haven't always had precise grammar, or approached conclusions in a logical manner, and I'll sometimes post in a very non-INTj-like voice (when i'm not concerned with objectivity)...you might be surprised to learn that i used to type as an INFp (tho my latest typing was INTj). Also, studying science, many of my lecturers are xNTj's, and I wonder that that hasn't rubbed off on me...How do you know whether a particular trait someone is exhibiting is the result of their socionics personality type, or something they've learned to do based on study (academic or experiential)? There's no straightforward way of telling...And furthermore, related to that question, is socionics type mostly a result of genetics (Nature), environmental conditioning (Nurture), or an interaction between both (learning)? To relate this to my particular case, am I a genetically-determined INFp who's learnt to tackle certain things in an INTj manner? Or was I a genetically determined INTj to begin with...? Or...has my type (whatever it is) been determined through the interaction of my genetics and upbringing? It goes without saying that these questions don't just apply to me. They're pretty unanswerable questions tho...Is there even much point in asking them? Why am I asking so many questions when I know no one has the answers?? Argh. -- Shez
A23 'you seem the happiest when you can be charming, encourage people, provoke them to act, move fast, have deep feelings but not show them.' Could as easily be Fe as Se. Grant's said that he's lazy, and not terribly useful (no offence Grant! just using your own observations), which i think counts against Se. -- Shez
