| A1 There is some controversy in the Socionics community about this. This website seems to advocate a position very much like physiognomy (admins, correct me if I'm wrong), whereas other socionists disagree and say that V.I. is about facial expressions and body language, not actual physical traits. -- Krig (INTj) |

A2 It's not a dumb question. One brand of "VI" is crude physiognomy and another is a sophisticated observation of affective or expressive responses. Another form of VI combines the two. The term "visual identification" is perhaps quite apt either way. The extent to which one brand of VI is preferred over the other reflects one's belief regarding the degree of correspondence socionics needs to have with existing scientific disciplines. -- Anonymous
