Question #1215808443Friday, 11-Jul-2008
Category: ESFj
Can you, if only momentarily, imagine yourself living in a world without criticism? Personally I can not stretch the limits of the imagination that far. In parallel, the alternative of a world full of constant criticism seems just as unimaginable. Experience thwarts all my efforts. I've noticed a constant association: the Enthusiast detest criticism. I whole heartedly agree but have you ever heard the expression: you are your own worst enemy. Perhaps its because they're my dual or perhaps not, but by far ESFJ take the grandest stand for unleashing criticism that is pure wickedness, wretchedness, cruelity, scornfulness, bitterness, resentment and many more. Honestly I think I could sue the Enthusiast for lasting psychological and emotional damage done to me by their criticism. By that, I mean the Enthusiast is at times disportionate in the amount of hurt they display. A slight miscommunication or misunderstanding has resulted in a emotional decaying relationship in which the Enthusiast is responsbile for because they have lost self control. Imagine a relationship as a spawning seed. The growth of the seed depends upon sunlight for warmth and rainwater for hydration. Sunlight is analgous to compliments while rainwater is analgous to criticism. The growth of a relationship depends upon compliments and criticism. In fact they hardly differ from each other. A compliment means 'correct' while criticism means 'incorrect'. Imagine a person who never recieved compliments because they always acted incorrect. This same person discredits the criticism they do receive and so is never corrected and can never be complimented. Do you still consider refraining from criticising the Enthusiast a wise decision? -- Anonymous

A1 i think the name for that phenomenon may be called utopian. -- v-intp
A2 you make a fair point - ESFj's who can't handle criticism are in no position to be dishing it out so much to others. indifference is a tempting reaction. can't give any advice on what to do, as i face the same problem with my ESFj mother. Take comfort in the fact that for all the hooha, you can think for yourself. -- S
A3 addendum to A3,a world without criticism is not only, like A1 said utopian, but also somewhat unwanted as it takes the constructive variety away. -- Anonymous
A4 There are two kinds of criticism, constructive and non-constructive. With the former kind I'd happily live in a world saturated by it. For the latter variety, unsheathe the swords. -- ENTp

A5 A world without criticism is not utopian; it is permissive and blind, with no hope, objectives, standards, ... ideals. The world desperately needs more sound criticism, and few are in the position to see rightly enough to give it. The ones that are are usually scoffed at, looked upon as freaks, discredited, ignored, or shunned when they begin having an effect (i.e., making too much sense and ruining others' parade of sheer folly). -- Anonymous
A6 To A5 < A3-4, right, utopy is tied to positive overtones. An environment without criticism is an environment without any guided correction whatsoever, since every correction made is dependant on verbal\tactical moves which conveys the neccessity of deviation from the current course of action, a situation which is criticism per definition. Thanks for reminding me not to play with expressions lightly. Utopia by itself may still "exist" as a fascinating idea to play with, but defining utopia by adding certain qualifications\disqualifications takes the utopian out of utopia. -- ENTp
