Difference between ESTp/ISTp

How can you tell the difference in public?

complicater-complexer 27/05/2010 03:21 PM

Watch me and Cyclops, I am ESTp, he is ISTp.

Cyclops 27/05/2010 03:23 PM

ISTps ARE the best, ESTps THINK they're the best.

I think the most crucial difference is ESTp's Fi-POLR/Fe-HA and ISTp's Fe-POLR/Fi-HA.

Fi-POLR/Fe-HA doesn't care how people feel on a personal level, but does care about the general environment to be merry. So, they will be offending people but not really care about it, instead opting to joke loudly and make fools of themselves just to be funny, and thinking it's making them popular.

Fe-POLR/Fi-HA is practically paralyzed when it comes to expressing emotion, even though they feel emotion on a personal level and yearn to connect personally with people. They will have the straight faces when someone jokes, or if someone is sharing something upsetting, they will feel compassion and try to say something to convey that but with a brusque tone and may not quite fit the context.

Someone on 16types once posted two photos that represented this difference sort of. One was of The Joker smiling widely when saying something menacing (ESTp), and the other was some wrestler guy thinking something nice, but completely stone faced and looking mad. LOL i'll have to find it those at some point and post them, unless someone else beats me to it.

ESTp's, not the heavier kind, are very active and energetic. When they look at a pretty woman their open their eyes wide open and as if trying to absorbe all of the qualities of the individual, will stair or pierce with their eyes at the person's looks, eyes, or external mannerisms.

So are ISTp's. But i do agree with ESTp's having more piercing eyes in what to me is a scary way, whereas ISTp's have a calm gentle gaze, like all this love that is hidden inside and coming out only through the eyes. However, this difference can be pretty subtle and not something Nate is going to be able to necessarily use. This is more something a dual would look for to differentiate the two.

Person 1 ESTP
Person 2 ISTP

In a room, how would interactions differ between the two?

ESTp, if they like the company, will be smily and talkative, greeting and observant, but observant in the moment, like their eyes are allert and moving.
ISTp, will enter shyly at the company of individuals, then when emotional affirmation is felt, will become light hearted and fun; introversion has to to with not being in the moment right away, removed/distant/ in their mind/ thinking about their own personal involvement or sensations in the moment.

You mean, if it was just the two of them?? That would be an extinguishment relation, so they would get alone fine one on one at first anyway, and likely find something in common to talk about, but interacting with each other in public will be a problem.

If you mean, how would their interactions with a group differ, then like i said, I believe the Fi/Fe thing would be the key difference that is noticeable right off the bat. Another think i'd like to add to that, is a quadra difference in that the ESTp will be trying to engage the entire group and making everyone laugh, while the ISTp will be having little one-on-one conversations with people sitting near him.

ESTp loud and dominating more action action
ISTp quiet and more centred less run around

They speak a bit different too, the ESTp sort of projects their voice from the top of their mouth and above, and garble their mouth haha. Whereas the ISTp seems to sort of talk from the bottom of their mouth and sticks out a lot less.

Yeah, it can be difficult to describe the differences on paper, but as it goes this isn't too bad methinks.

natemaldonado 27/05/2010 07:38 PM

Would ESTp be a lot more boastful, like a braggert vs. keeping their mouths shut until the a time calls for initiative?

privilege 02/06/2010 01:49 PM

Have you consider ENTp, natemaldonando? You come across as a tough guy, ISTPs are pretty sensitive individuals.

Cyclops 02/06/2010 01:52 PM

Yeah, I was thinking maybe ISTj, or an ISTp not admitting to his feelings per se, dunno though.

natemaldonado 02/06/2010 05:18 PM

Well from reading the profile for ENTp on this website, there's not a chance I'm an ENTp. I like how they tried to mask butt chin with inward sloping chin.

As far as ISTj, my conversation style always steers away from philosophy, morality, and religion.

What direction does your conversation style steer towards?

Sports, One-upmanship, Upcoming events, Career, What'd you do last weekend, how hot so and so has gotten lately, quotes from movies or shows, teasing people of their mannerisms, what are you up to next week, betting lines, poker....

That's probably more of a general guideline as I realized when I posted earlier, you could write an entire book with just one of the convos listed above

Cyclops 03/06/2010 11:05 AM

If you post your pics it might help.

natemaldonado 03/06/2010 12:35 PM

Under the thread VI me, I can post more if needed.
