Category: Type me!!!
Hi, everyone. I need help trying to figure out which type I most fit. I'm wavering between INFP and INTP. Can anyone help?I used to be very quiet and pretty sensitive, but now I'm more outgoing and less quiet (still sensitive). The outgoingness depends on my mood. I appear absent-minded,like I'm not all there, but I'm paying attention to what's going on. I tend to like to hear myself talk. I think a lot, I don't mind being with people sometimes and I don't mind being alone, either. I tend to be fairly hands-on and practical, though somewhat lazy.I'm emotional and moody, but can be analytical. I'm unscheduled. -- fg1

A1 First of all, I would like to point out that Socionics types, written with the last letter minuscule (INFp and INTp), need not correspond to the MBTI types. So even when you are an INP in MBTI you need not be an INp in Socionics. What you describe yourself just indicates you are not an Ej. You even sound a lot like me, and I am an ESFp. So much more information on yourself would not hurt. -- Anonymous
A2 Thanks for the response. Hmm...I don't always like going out, but I do like to spend time with people I like( when I'm in the mood). I used to be very hard-working in school, but then I started getting lazy. People who know me say I'm too laid-back and I don't assert myself enough. Sometimes I'm a bit naive and have unrealistic expectations of people. I expect others to be courteous to me as I'm courteous to them, and if they're not to me, in most cases, I take it as an offense( I let it slide if I know them well enough). I have a sad look on my face even when I'm relaxed. People tell me I look sad, and I often am. -- fg1
A3 I see. Well to me, you sound like an Fp - most probably INFp or ESFp; or an INFj. Maybe try reading the questions and discussions on various types here and see which one and whose posts are closest to you. What might also help is remembering your childhood. What were you like when you were a child? And what childhood memory brings back feeling of pure happiness to you? -- Ezis (ESFp)
A4 When I was a child, I was very imaginative, inquisitive, and a bit sarcastic.I was actually somewhat active when I was young. I used to spend time outdoors with my friends or family( on some occasions). I kind of mellowed out now. My teachers described me as being hard-working and conscientious. The childhood memories that bring back pure happiness to me is when my siblings and I would play together ( at any time). I did have my " leave me alone" moments. I did hang around people, but not as much as I do now.I came on kind of strong to some potential friends and I ended up scaring them away. I was a people-pleaser( still am, but not overly so). I don't think that I could be ESFp because I perceive them to be self-confident and bubbly. Right now, people describe me as being level-headed and sensible, and I'm creative in a practical way. I'm pretty detail- oriented, but sometimes I rush and end up missing the details. I usually see the trees for the forest and am pretty precise. I'm more positive concerning others than I am myself. People describe me as being sweet and caring. I like to show I like people by doing things for them. Some of the ESFp description fits( don't know if ESFps behave like I do), but I can relate more to the ISFp. -- fg1
A5 I've never seen a more difficult typing... I'm not sure so these are just guesses: The only thing I am really sure about is that you aren't an ENTj, INTp or ESFp, and probably not an ESTp, ISTj or INFp. Also, your dominant or creative function is probably Fe or Te - you don't look like an Fi or Ti because you are making yourself clear, point after point. But still there is this minor possibility that you are an ISFj. "Hard-working, level-headed, caring" - people usually call this ESjs or ISps (mind you, Socionics ISps are something different than MBTI ISPs, they are more similar to MBTI ISJs). Also my general impression from your descriptions is kind of SiTe or SiFe. But you have both ESj and ISp implying facts in your descriptions. I tend to think ESj more because you seem like an extrovert (extroverts know their surrounding better than themselves so they more often have problems typing themselves, your happiest memory concerns other people, you are less active now=developing your secondary introverted functions). But I’m not sure. So this is where my knowledge ends. Here are some more questions: How have you changed recently, have you become less active physically or in communication with people? How old are you? What are you doing exactly in your happiest memories? Are you leading your siblings or just playing along, with what are you playing? Do you have any just as vivid and happy childhood memories concerning touching or smelling something pleasant? Also, what do you imagine or remember offends you most, like "I would have never thought this might offend me, but it really does. I'm NOT LIKE THAT AT ALL!" and makes you think the person who called you that doesn't know you at all? And it needn‘t necessarily be an offence. Like I was really surprised at myself when I got livid at one of my friends who called me an „absent-minded intellectual“. Then I realized that’s because I’m an Se, who always know what‘s going on around them and are never absent-minded. – Maybe also someone else will recognize your type here. -- Ezis (ESFp)

A6 Hmm...I've become less active physically. I used to be really motivated physically, but then I just lost my drive. I did become somewhat less active in my communication with people, mainly because I'm moody. Sometimes I would lead in the playing of the games(toys:mostly karate fights, sometimes drama), but not always. I do remember baking cakes and licking the batter off the spoon( I used to love that, and still do) or the smell of pancakes in the morning( I love food). I'm a perfectionist, ( I don't know if I would still be an S). I'm 21 and female( if that helps). What offends me would be when someone offers me criticism and I feel that they've rubbed me the wrong way already( I already can't take it), like, when someone comes into my space trying to light a fire under me when I'm not ready and adds criticism to that. I get agitated with that. To correct what I said before, I tend to like to hear myself talk when I find the subject interesting. If I don't, I kind of tune out. I myself tend to think I'm anxious and I need to slow down and stop worrying so much. Thank you for your input. -- fg1
A7 Do the TURBO socionics test. That should rule most everything out. -- INFp guy
A8 Sorry for asking so many questions and still not being able to tell your type... you really are interesting. What still seems probable to me is that you aren't Gamma quadra (that is, an ESFp, ISFj, ENTj or INTp) and you look like a Delta quadra, maybe an ESTj or an INFj. And in your last post, you do sound a bit like my INFj sister (she loves cooking, is sensitive but interested in slow but rough western films, afraid of criticism that comes out of the blue, loved sipping milk when she was a child). Would you get deeply offended if someone told you you are insensitive, have no sense of beauty and no imagination? How do you like the INFp description here? (Because I'm convinced the INFp description here is actually an INFj description - it's almost an exact description of my sister who is a clear j.) -- Ezis (ESFp)
A9 Thank you. I'm curious as to why you think I could be an ESTJ. About your first question, I haven't really thought about that. I do know that I'm self-critical and also critical of others(mainly out of suspicion). About the INFp description, the middle two paragraphs and small bits of the last apply. I can be stubborn and proud(I don't always show the proud part, but it's there). When it comes to motivating myself, I find it very hard to do unless I really want to do it. I get easily distracted when it comes to things I don't want to do. About the sense of beauty, I do notice when something's out of place on someone's outfit and when an outfit is nice on a person, and do know how to dress myself, though this depends on my mood. In the past, I would get spaced out when I'm nervous, but not too much now. I vary between being serious and being playful, though my overall demeanor is calm. To elaborate on that, I show my serious side in places where I'm not comfortable and with people I don't know, but I'm pretty playful when I'm comfortable and I know the people. I sometimes play the victim when I'm upset. -- fg1
A10 I thought ESTj based on the "hands-on and practical", "caring", "physical activities", "hard-working" and generally describing yourself quite a lot using phrases that other people said about you. That would imply E and perhaps also j. But you do start to look more clearly like an INFj - as almost everything you say about yourself could apply to my INFj sister (she even sometimes describes herself according to other people's opinions), and the middle part of the article is IMO the most accurate one. So an INFP in MBTI, an INFj in Socionics (described here as INFp), from Delta quadra, Duals with ESTjs, is my version -- Ezis (ESFp)
A11 i dont mean to be rude, but i find Ezis's thoughts to be wrong. i know for a fact that intps can seem very extroverted when writing things on the internet. they do like to hear themselves talk. (dont believe me? browse the intpforum) you type (as in with the keyboard.. not as in MBTI) very much like an intp.. lots of parentheses and elipses. also - intps are quite prone to second guessing their own type over and over again. infps dont often put much faith into MBTI lets settle the I or E. do you find your energy rather taxed after you are in public situations? like if you were at a party.. after a while do you feel the need to do something by yourself for a while? if so, you are an I. however, if you get all wound up during/after things like that.. then you are probably an E. "I show my serious side in places where I'm not comfortable and with people" that is VERY intp. one infp i know is the exact opposite.. he is serious around people he knows well and playful in public.. however the other infp is serious.... all the time. to strictly differentiate between you being intp or infp - i think observing your own body language will help you. do you walk around arms crossed with your neck slanted forward, looking down most of the time - and walk rather quickly? that is standard intp posture. The infps i know walk rather slow. dont be fooled.. intps have feelings.. and often rather strong ones.. they just often suppress these feelings and have trouble relating with other people's feelings. i have a strong feeling that you are an intp. read this: http://www.intp.org/intprofile.html it is almost flawlessly accurate. -- snik (intp)
