Category: Theory Models INTj Socionics
Since there are obvious conflicts between MBTI and Socionics, does this mean that one has to be right and the other one has to be wrong? Or is it possible that both are correct? This is so frustrating for me because I seem to fit both descriptions of INTJ and INTj. Now I'm trying to figure out if I actually use Intuition or Thinking as my lead function. However, it seems like both of them are in my head. Does this violate the theory in Socionics at all? -- Anonymous INTj

A13 OMG - I/O, I think you just greatly clarified something for me. Let me see if I understand what you are saying. I have to back up first though. On MBTI, I either come out as ENFJ or INFJ - E/I is about 50/50, According to Socionics, I either come out as ENFJ or INFP. I am a counselor by trade. MBTI (Fe,Ni/Ni,Fe), Socionics (Fe,Ni/Ne,Fi). I've read your articles and I do identify with how you describe the functions, but I too see both descriptions in both MBTI and Socionics). If I'm understanding your post right, A2 and A4, the difference is a matter of perspective. MBTI using the perspective of self(how we view ourselves and interact with ourselves) and Socionics using the view of others(how others view us and interact with us). It does not matter for the extroverted part of my nature. When I am in a "Teacher" role I can totally see how others would think of it as an "actor"- I'll admit when I ran psychological education groups that taught, I did feel it was a performance of sorts, it took a humongous amount of energy to "stay out there" (extroverted) to do it, I was often VERY tired afterward. As for the introverted part of my nature, the path of least resistance for me, to be sure- I could understand how my view of self and how others view me is sometimes quite different. Using your article on Hidden Agenda,I do understand how using MBTI "to believe", "to be loved" "To understand" and lastly "to be wealthy" are my functions. I kinda think of them like Chakras, if the first is not met, the deeper needs do not stand a chance, wherever one is choked, the following needs do not stand a chance. Ex. Most of my patients know from the start that I want to believe in them, I do care, and understand. When this happens, when all these conditions arre met, I DO feel like the richest person in the world, even though in reality I do not particularly care for material posessions, I look to my relationships to enrich me and my husband to take care of the material world around me. Conversely, sometimes when I interact with others (socionics) who I am and how I am (internally) does not come across. Sometimes people think that I need to be perfect (Ne) or that I seek attention and get too passionate about my work, or take on too much like I'm some sort of martyr (Fi) or your "Need to Love". In all honesty, I'm not this way, I'd rather hide than be the center of attention, I dislike when people call attention to my accomplishments because I really think I'm far from perfect. People do not understand why I do the things I do. Yes, my caseload is overflowing, but I think it is because I want to help people and feel joy when I do. Others on my team however, think I;m trying to be in some sort of competition, I'm trying to be perfect or have something to prove. I really don't, I've never been competitive and did not understand how they can think this until I read your entry tonight. It's their perspective of how/why I do things, sociologically speaking, vs my own perspective psychologically speaking. They are external to me and I to them, so when you think about "internnal" functions, they only see the external output and so the function is reversed. Is this right?? This would also explain why then an ISTP has an Fe function according to MBTI. They often seem so cold and emotionless to me, although many profess they care a great deal about what others think of them. I could hardly believe that one of their MBTI functions is Fe when I first got into this, but I find they have a great deal of vulnerability and depth of emotion, if I can tap down into it. It just seems to take awhile. -- Serendipity
