Question #1231237650Tuesday, 6-Jan-2009
Category: ISTp ESTp Typing E/I
not sure if someone is an ESTp or ISTp. I'm ENFp, and I see signs of super-ego, but only because I feel to be the more clingy one and feel frequently that he engages in his own activities, and doesn't give me enough attention. However, there is a strong possibility that I'd be this way in almost any relationship. I, as an ENFp, love attention especially from the ones I love so much. I'm a tad high maintenance? (Shamefully.) Anyway, he seems to bounce back and forth from extraverted to introverted. He doesn't show any distinct characteristics that would determine which type he is more like. He isn't very risk-taking in my opinion for an xSTp type. Just curious... I'd like to know if there's a possibility if we're super-ego relations, or if it's more just me being high-maintenance. P.S.: One thing that makes me strongly feel he is ISTp is his great capacity to love... but only to love me. Is this a sign of hidden agenda? AND He has ADD pretty bad. Perhaps this could be mistaken for as extraversion? I don't know... Thanks for your time, and I apoligize for any haziness, since I'm very scrambled in my writing. -- IEE

A1 ESTp types I know seem to give people lot of attention, not sure if they do the same to their romantic partners. Because of this person's great capacity to love, I would think he is an ISTp. With ESTp types I think they give more attention to people who don't really give them any... but based on this information I am still leaning towards him being ISTp. -- Anonymous

A2 A1 is correct. Also, IMO the "ISTP uncovered" profile on this site is better suited for the ESTP or ISTJ - or any Se type, really. Se's are overtly acquisitive and cranky, not Si types. Delta ST's are recognizable by their high sense of responsibility to their commitments. They prefer familiar work and are can be most diligent at the taks they undertake, once they assume and master them. They are not materialistic like ISTJ and ESTP. The latter two focus on what they have and what they can acquire, and easily express assertiveness and aggression. The ESTJ and ISTP types only express their assertiveness through their sense of competence, and so it may seem to be a rather sidewise approach. They are more apt to appear arrogant and fiercely independent to some types. They do not have the image-consciousness with respect to typical social norms (on a shallow level) that the beta ST's do. -- Anonymous

A4 You're welcome. I also would like to add that Gulenko really screwed up typing when writing his profiles. They do not fit the types when you approach them from an analytical standpoint of how the functions are really defined to begin with. For starters, the ESTP one on this site actually should be for ISTP. Don't feel bad about getting confused. It's gonna take a while, it seems, before socionists finally get their ducks in a row. -- author of A2
A5 yea i'm an istp and i have pretty bad ADD. Never been diagnosed, but i can get lost in activity so easily. And yes, A4 so true, the istp profile describes me, but a lot of estp profile does too. -- Anonymous
