What's the difference between MBTI and Socionics? -- JennaINFP |

A1 This is how I see it, and I'd like to hear what others think since some posters at this Web site really overeact when people use MBTI acronyms for the types... Anyway, Socionics is more focused on the theory of intertype relations than MBTI. Also, in socionics the order of the functions is different for some types, including ours (INFp). Some posters at this site have said the functions are non-linear in Socionics (which is confusing and annoying!), even though there is reference to a type's first two functions as being dominant and auxilliary, like with Myers-Briggs, on this very Web site on a page (click on the "Fn" link) linked to the "Who's Who" page. For example in MBTI, INFP's dominant function is Feeling and his or her auxilliary function is Intuition, but in Socionics INFp's dominant function is Intuition; Feeling is her (or his) auxilliary. I test as a INFP in MBTI and an INFp in Socionics. The Socionics descriptions of the functions are very similar to MBTI function descriptions. Look on the Pychological Types page at this Web site. For the record, I do feel that Intuition is my dominant function and I have interacted well with ISTjs, ENFjs, ESTps and other INFps (who are all self-idenfied!). I have interacted well with other types, too, but I definitely see value (accuracy) in Socionics. -- learning (always) |
