| I'd really like to know everyone's thoughts about Barack Obama's and John McCain's types. I feel like this is a pretty important question considering the magnitude of the coming elections in America. Let me start off this discussion by saying that I believe that Obama is ENFP (although in some photos, he seems to resemble INTP from visual ID). And I see John McCain as ESTJ. | A68 A67, why are you being so defensive? I'm all for hearing different views and open discussion. If you disagree with my evaluations than feel free to back them up with your own views in terms of Socionics. I'm not even basing my observations off of personal political beliefs but on his mannerisms, speech and general ties with other people like his wife and staff. So it isn't a political debate on my part, as I'm neutral in terms of that, I'm strictly basing my views on Obama, the individual, not his political affiliations. -- An INFj |
| A69 I think Obama is ENTj. One thing you have to remember is that when it comes to something as significant as running an entire country, it is not unlikely that someone with N tendencies will listen to those that they respect and look up to - i.e., an INFp. This would explain some of his comments and perspectives that seem to be "p", etc. I've paid little attention to his wife... I'm very curious as to whether or not she or a close confidante of his is in fact an INFp. I am an INFp, and my best friend is an ENTj.... While we have major differences, we value each other's opinions immensely, and if we feel we are unable to reach an objective few point or simply want someone else's insight, we are going to look to each other first. Often, we incorporate each other's world views into our own, once we've found the logic in them... or simply the value, logical or not. -- Kaytlon |
| A70 Obama is not a rational person. He is an idealist. His sense of bringing everyone together for unification is readily apparent; hence, he is future oriented. So you can knock just about every realist off the list. He is extremely confident and even stubborn in his visions. Obama cares about the people, and the world as a whole. Enthusiastic, charismatic, insightful, well educated, and unique, it would only make sense to classify him as such. His longing for peaceful and liberated connections amongst people, is in his confiding nature. This would eradicate all personality types without an intellectual mind. Barack Hussein Obama is a man who is direct and will not allow anyone to stand in the way of his perceptions; not even God. But if he is the antichrist, then it is inevetiable that he will be exterminated. How I came to the conclusion that he is indeed the Devil's son is irrelevant to this topic. However, I will discuss how it will come to be so. Barack Hussein Obama has 18 letters in his full name. If you divide his first, middle, and last name into 18, the result can turn into the equation of 6 + 6 + 6 = 18. Also, the bible states that the beast will have the mouth of a lion, and it is truthful that Leo depicts the Lion and is President Obama's sign. In my extensive studies, I've concluded that Obama and I are both INFp's and Leo's. This is not factual information. It is only intended to be a basis of analytical thought. | A71 As to Obama's type, his vision and depth of insights coupled with his calm, rational-mindedness is clearly NT. As far as socionics types go, he fits the ENTP and INTJ VI sketches offered on this site, and the ENTP uncovered profile on this site; but, the ENTJ +/- description and Gulenko's ENFJ(!) description. He is the same type as Ed Speelers, James Franco, Jack Nicholson, and Dennis Quaid. (@A70, you may wish to revisit the biblical definition and reference of antichrist with respect to their beliefs rather than rely on imaginative, popularized theories that are more recent in the course of history). -- Anonymous |

A76 My own impression of Obama is of someone who is coolly optimistic, buoyant, nonchalant, and a little aloof, a little cerebral. This, if correct, indicates that Obama is an  type, probably ENFp, as he tempers his pedagogical tendencies with a dash of humanism and maintains a conciliatory outlook. -- Anonymous |
| A77 Obama is not ENFp. He is ENFj. He is way too poised to be an Enfp and is definitely a Judging type. Not Ne type at all but Fe. A common trait of Enfj is to consult everyone when making a decision and reach a consensus to seek win/win situation. His oratory skills and diplomatic capability are Fe based. Here is a description of the Fe as 1st function: "Fe is responsible for the perception of an emotional state in an individual and the bodily and linguistic expression of emotions. Fe is able to influence others' emotional condition and to communicate its own, "infecting" others. Fe is used especially in generating and recognizing excitement and enthusiasm." And here is a description of Ne as 1st function:"Ne is responsible for understanding the essence (permanent traits) of a thing, estimating opportunities and possibilities for people and things, and visualizing potential outcomes of events. It is responsible for the sense of interest or boredom. Ne will speculate as to why an event occurs, but sees the specific event as static and unalterable." Plus, Obama is commanding and decisive like an ENTj, which ENFj shares those traits with except that instead of being guided by extaverted logic, they're guided by extraverted ethics. Bill Clinton was ENFp, probably one of the most successful ones. He is definitely more goofy than Obama and has this silly switch that Obama hasn't. Plus Michelle Obama is definitely ISTJ big time and that's his dual. -- Anonymous |

Barack Obama does not come across overly "together," so to speak. He stammers, uses long pauses, frequently interjects "Um" into his musings. Furthermore, lack of aplomb is not characteristic of ENFps. "A common trait of Enfj is to consult everyone when making a decision... (etc)." False - this isn't something that should be seen as intrinsic to ENFjs or any one particular type. "Plus, Obama is commanding and decisive." Actually, both critics and admirers have noted that Obama is more comfortable playing the role of the debater, the mediator, or the diplomat than that of the commanding authority. | A80 Ho-hum. So I see the predominate argument that Obama is an ENFj is that Fe types are capable of exciting people and stirring up enthusiasm, which Obama clearly does. But let's deconstruct that notion and examine some other plausible alternate reasons Obama generates interest. It is really because he is an Fe type? Or could it because of his policies and politics? Because of an ideological change after 8 years of a severely unpopular predecessor? Is it his deep, sonorous speaking voice? Proficient speech writers? His youthful good looks? Is it because he proved a black man could be president in a nation haunted by the legacy of slavery? Maybe a coalescence of these factors? -- Anonymous |

| A82 I just listened to Obama's speech in Egypt and that sounds totally Fe. He is very in tune with people's emotions and ethics of emotions. There is a characteristic spirituality about it that is more ENFj than ENFp. He's amazing at rallying people together. -- Anonymous ENFp |

| A86 I'm starting to rethink my initial guess that Obama is ENFP. From visual ID, I'm now guessing that he is either an ISTP or an INTP. Can't quite tell which one though. He no longer reminds me of ENFP. Could it be the case that he is in fact ISTP, and many people on this message board are falling victim to the phenomenon of "opposite typing" by calling him an ENFJ? -- Doug |

Just saying that he is ENFJ doesn't make it true, and it obviously doesn't explain why it might be true...Do you think he is ENFJ because he's a good orator? I would remind you in that case that oration is not a natural skill for him, but something he had to practice quite a bit. Is he a J? How about his own admittance that he is quite disorganized and needs someone to help him keep his stuff in order? And aren't ENFJ's supposed to be uncoordinated when it comes to athletics? | A89 Let's get this discussion going again...I'm now of the opinion that Obama is almost certainly one of the Gamma NT's. INTP or ENTJ...not sure about which one. It's become pretty obvious that Obama can't possibly be ENFJ with leading Fe-There's a reason why they call him 'No Drama Obama'. He's quite into athletics, which is something I'd normally expect to see from one of the Se-Ni valuing quadrants. I can't see him as anything other than a Gamma, valuing Te, Fi, Se, and Ni. Also, many of his closest advisors and colleagues appear to be Gamma as well. Valerie Jarrett, his closest confidant appears almost certain to be a Gamma SF type (ESFP or ISFJ...can't quite tell). Joe Biden seems to be a Gamma SF as well (ISFJ anyone)? I think what we saw during the primaries was a typical Gamma/Alpha clash between the Clintons (both Alphas- Hillary INTJ and Bill- ESFJ) and Obama, a Gamma NT. -- Doug |
