Category: Intertype Relations
Case study - Could a Semi-Dual alter my mind? Evrika! I just discovered something I didn't find elsewhere on the internet, a thing of a great interest for me, and probably for some of you. I am a typical ENTP and have an ISTP brother, a Semi-Duality interaction. Ever since early childhood I was the one who was the head of the "crazy things" we did together. Everything seems normal, he was the shadow of the extrovert older brother. Fine, I was the one who took him in the middle of the night to cut a cable from another city part to use it to exit the window (we were living on the 7th floor!), I was the one with all the experiments, music, computers, etc. As we know, his SuperId Suggestive function (the one that the "child" in him was needing) is Extroverted Intuition , exactly my domain of interest and action. What I didn't realize until few hours ago was in fact his influence over my character! ...because I did't study the Socionics functions, of course. As we also know, my suggestive function is Introverted Sensing , my lack of discerning between "pleasant" and "unpleasant", between "beautiful" and "ugly", my inability to choose. Considering the symmetry of the Semi-Duality relationship, his Base function actually MANIPULATED me, as I did to him, but in a way that I wasn't even aware. I, in fact, became an ENTP with a radical way of jugding pleasant things (ask my workmates and friends), I have, and cry aloud my strong tastes in music, in physical appearance, behavior. Between others, we are both hardcore metaleers. Remember, I'm a TYPICAL ENTP, I have all the traits, but with theese additions... One of the percepts I took from my brother is how I see women. I became very radical, I like only long, slim women, usually tall, small breasts (I mean it, I hate BIG BREASTS), active, very long hair and a kind of elastic behavior in them. In my mind, this description is typical for an ENFP female (though I also saw a full-figured one, once), I think he instinctually was inclined for this type. Everybody knows that the ENTP, without the use of the post-Jungian types descriptions, couldn't carve for his dual, in fact he does not know what he needs. This is exactly the weak Introverting Sensing that (sadly for my case) belongs to the suggestive place in the ENTP model . I unconsciously borrowed his tastes, my ex gf was ENFP with exactly that body type, hair, etc. I was very attracted physically to her, but if you want to know what happened, look for the description of the Comparative relationship and add a bit more detail, of course . One problem could be that, usually, the ISFP women would be more "round", with full breasts, I should force myself to like them, not the point of the Duality relationship. This could a problem: - Could I have a self-sufficiency inflicted by the satisfaction on that function that could make directly dismiss many women that could be ISFP - my Dual? - Tied to the previous question: could there exist very slim ISFP females? - Could the same satisfaction make un-needed the help of a dual on the suggestive function, especially if her tastes would differ from mine/my brother's? - I don't know if I could loose this criticism (satisfaction on that function) if I'd break the relationship with my brother - we made the school together, now we work in the same place, we smoke together, etc. It's just the chance...we never actually wanted to be together, except family visits . I don't remember exactly, but when he was doing the military stage, it is possible I became a little bit "undecided" in picking, I used to blame the lack of sexual activity. - Could an ISFP female, with a hardened Extroverted Intuitive Suggestive function be the solution? What would be her behavior? I have no problems of identifying these traits in my personality though I feel helpless in taking the right decisions. I don't have many well-known friends, so too little Socionics practice. Any help is welcome, thank you! -- Mihai - ENTP

A1 In a nut shell-Yes. There is something called subtypes where you may prefer you auxillary to your dominant type. Perhaps the moderator or someone more knowledgable could expand on this -- An ISTp
A2 I didn't read all of this but I'm an ISFP and I'm definitely not full figured, quite the opposite! I fully despute the physical descriptions on this site! I also despute the dualty because it makes sense for people with the same dominant function to get together and I've always been insanely attracted to ESFJs who have my same dominant function. But of course you could always just forget all this and not even try to pick someone by type just go for whoever ur attracted to despite type. -- Anonymous
A3 A1: i heard about subtypes, i searched the web but found almost nothing. was it studied in socionics? A2: my image about ISFPs probably doesn't reflect the reality, i was just guessing from the ones i've known in real life . i though i could base the relationships on attraction and good will, but it seems like the results were sad and predictable. i didn't even know this science exists. the problem is not attraction, but the lasting of the relationship and pshychological and physical confort. us rationals could call this "risk evaluation" and "efficiency". the same dominant functions mostly means the same weaknesses. i like INTJ's, for example, but they're too stubborn in their pursuits, i feel i talk alone :|. and, in this case, who of us would touch the emotional part? i know INTJ both males and females, i don't just speculate. i think all ENTPs like emotional stimulation, but few could make them manifest. -- Mihai - ENTP
A4 I think SG has touched on the sub types-try doing a search for it on the socionics web site- search box in the site on the top left hand corner -- Cyclops - an ISTp
