Is there any correlation (or cause-effect relationship) between intuition and imagination? Other things equal, would you expect thinkers or feelers to have a stronger intuition/imagination? Why? -- Dhananjay |

A1 I always assumed that intuition and imagination are highly correlated. Also, I think intuition/imagination, at least at its elementary level, would be independent of the thinking or feeling functions...but I have no idea how to prove my above assertions. I have noticed that NFs and NTs manifest their intuition in different ways, but I guess an individual wouldn't have to. The only estimate I've ever seen of how genes determine personality states that over 500 genes influence a person's personality; so although I'm not answering your question very well, obviously the (very intelligent) issues you raised can become very complicated very quickly. -- econdude |
A2 N and T supposedly work on the left side of the brain. When one area of the brain is working, nearby areas are also stimulated. Therefore T would enhance N more than F. I think intuition is highly correlated with imagination, if not a synonym for it. -- RR INTp |
A3 @A2, This is about the fourteenth assertion I've seen regarding brain lateralization and psychological function. I have often been guilty of repeating this stuff myself. I won't do it any more. The problem is one of consistency. No one partitions T, N, S or F in the same way. This leads to the conclusion that such partitioning is not valid. -- Anonymous |
A4 @A3, No, this obviously leads to the conclusion that not everyone is correct about their assertions, that's all. -- anonymous |
A5 @A4. Look up the meaning of "validity." -- Anonymous |

A6 @A3. That's why I said supposedly. All this is theory anyway. The partition was from www.socioniko.net, I'm not sure if the article is there anymore, the site has changed. There I,N,T and J are left sided, and E, F, S, P are right sided. -- RR INTp |
A7 "N and T supposedly work on the left side of the brain. When one area of the brain is working, nearby areas are also stimulated. Therefore T would enhance N more than F. I think intuition is highly correlated with imagination, if not a synonym for it. - RR INTp" I think traditional views would have N and F Right Brain and T and S Left Brain, but I still think that view is too simple. It is likely how we are wired (and cross wired) through these functions affects our behavior more. -- Anonymous |
