Question #1152557441 | Monday, 10-Jul-2006 |

It has been more than a year that I am searching for my type. I think that ISTp is the most probable but I need to check: 1. I am not organized, I rarely follow a schedule, it is difficult for me to throw something and there is a continuous fight between feelings and thoughts. Are these things enough to say that I'm a p? 2. I have already given my picture to Sergei and he thinks that I look like an ISTp, the + and - description of the ISTp fits me well. 3. I am not stingy, but I am not a spendthrift either. Does this contradict the fact that I'm an ISTp? 4.I just have one true friend which I see once every 4 or 5 months. What can I do? -- Complicater-Complexer |

A1 The best thing, imho, is to read the various descriptions from several sites, also read descriptions from other types. Ultimately you will end up recognizing one specific type as your own. Then don't worry about the abbreviation. -- pm (ENFp)

There is nothing clinical or objective about most Socionics resources. Check how reliable the source is before you follow the advice given above. Also, as hinted, it may be good to understand the differences between functions and/or types so you know not only what you are, but what you are not. |

A2 Sounds like quite P to me -- pm (ENFp) |
A3 Complicater-Complexer, my suggestion is to get out of the house a little more and interact with people. One friend you see only 4 or 5 months is not much human contact. You can learn a great deal about yourself by being in association with others. Be selective, though. Do you have means of transportation? Can you sign up for a class? Volunteer to help someone in need, like maybe your parents or grandparents (if they are around). -- enfp |
A4 I would say you are defo a p, defo a t, quite possibly an i, so would therefore say you are either in or is - tp. Which one would you say? -- ISTp |
A5 well **** if your only have one friend, your obviously intraverted. im still in the process as u r about finding my type. if ur not too bothered by an argument your prolly the t not the feeling type who runs with cowardice from aconflict. -- istp |
A6 Hm. I think A5 is oversimplifying. As a self-identifying ISTp, I would say some of the things that jump out at me as being (primarily) exclusive to my type are: inexhaustible curiosity, thirst for adventure, healthy lifestyle, scepticism based on experiences, others thinking my difficulty in showing deep emotions "makes" me aloof ... (those taken from the +/- description ... next batch from physical descri) ... one-sided smile (often with other side turned down), clothes chosen for comfort instead of style, sometimes ignore casual acquaintances (if I think I can get away with it), demand independence (oh yeah) while still valuing friendships, I used to be an adrenaline-junkie (now in my 30s I've had to modulate that a bit), iconoclastic (non-mainstream motivations), and many folks thought I was a rebel as a kid. The uncovered profile makes me feel like I should admit that I can be quite lazy when it suits me, I pride myself on filling my material needs without hardly ever paying retail, I've worked all kinds of jobs in part to teach me skills I want to use, and although an allergy to dander plus a tendency to move around a lot keeps me from owning animals I do get plenty of aminal-luvin' from my friends' critters ... Beyond the descriptions on this site, my self-concept would include a desire for spontaneity & the unknown, an omnipresent sarcastic sense of humor I mostly keep to myself, and a natural facility at imposing moderation on my hedonistic tendencies (for example, when I drink alcohol I reach a point where I simply don't want any more - I stop before I make myself sick, but not because I say "oooh, better stop there, or else! - instead, my body tells me it *wants* water, and I enjoy a nice tall glass of that!). Good luck at winnowing out your own type, and don't take it too seriously - socionics is a tool with limitations. Enjoy the trip, don't limit yourself by it! -- iAnnAu |
