On the site socionika.com I read the following statement on Duality: "A Persons who for the first time in their life finds themselves in dual contact tries to remember: "Where could have we meet with before?!" (Of course, it is uselessly). Nevertheless, both are sure they have known each other for many years." I've had this experience only once in my life, and I wonder, is this typical of Duality, i.e. does this always happen? Does this phenomenon also occur in relationships of other types, e.g. Semi-Duality? Anyone any thought on this phenomenon? -- pm (enfp) |

A1 Personally, I experienced that with a dual, a semi-dual, an identical and an illusionary. I've also been repulsed by duals upon first impression. Nevertheless, the "where could have we meet before" feeling becomes more apparent over the course of repeated interactions with a dual. Both your personalities seem to converge after the initial run-in and this levelling process happens quickly. Generally speaking, a dual is capable of perceiving or catching your mood accurately even without words and if she wants to, she could do something to restore your "equilibrium" and sometimes even without conscious effort on her part. It is rather like an automatic response. And because she gets you so well and vice versa, it can make you feel like you've known each other for many years. -- Anonymous |
A2 I have definitely NOT experienced that with any dual I've ever met. -- Anonymous |

A3 I am an ENFP and although it definitely doesn't happen with each ISTP, it has happened. It's like meeting someone you really really click with as I have with ENTPs or other types, but the duality factor does kick in and makes you feel like you have both known each other for so long because you feel so comfortable and it happens so fast that it's quite surprising. And it is felt by both people. But once again just meeting a person of your dual type is not enough, there needs to be ground for an intellectual connection. -- Anonymous |
A4 I almost always get a deja vu feeling "I have seen this face somewhere before..." when I meet an ENTj. Some of them actually asked me if we met before, so they had the feeling too. I felt this a little less intensely upon meeting some Semi-Duals and Duals, but it was also in the way of their behaviour and thinking, not so much in their visage. I also experience something like this in situations that have nothing to do with Socionics: with people who later turn out to have Jewish ancestors like me. I think what the authors of the site had in mind was the sensation of completion, like the other person is filling in a window inside yourself that you were subconsciously expecting to be filled in by someone like them, which is one of the principles of Duality experience. But as other posters said, you must also complement in other areas, not just Socionics type. -- Ezis (ESFp) |
