INTs are described as being good in mathematics & science. I score as an INTP/J but I did literature, liked it, & chose to NOT take science or maths as I was weak in those subjects. Nevertheless, I do think a scientific approach is good to have. DO you think I am in someway making a mistake while taking the personality assessment tests? Pls guide as I wish to know more about myself. BTW I don't get involved with the characters I read about so I guess I am not one of the NF types. Could my Thinking be very weak? -- Anusha |

A16 Anusha: The way I see it, the fact that you scored intp/j says first and formost that you simply have those preferences. Everyone develops all 8 oriented functions at different rates and with different preference. My guess is that you are more intuitive than thinking. You could have thinking over feeling be strong without even having developed that thinking so thoroughly. It can also be the case that one develops a function such an intuition but prefers to use it with a specific type of subject (a broad example being preference of words over numbers, or hard over soft science). Always keep in mind that when talking and thinking about specific behaviors and attractions that they can have little foundation in typological functions and such and that you ought not grind over the confusion too much. And because behaviors used to assess preferences can come about by circumstantial, environmental influence and adaptation, you could be shown to be 20%J and actually be split between the two, or vice versa. You may also have answered questions inaccurately, whether you were conscious of it or not, for we all incompletely and inaccurately asses ourselves. Ultimately when deciding what you should, I think one ought to consider what can hold their interest sufficiently and be competent at. Whether you are an INT or not may be known by why it is that you like the literature? How do you approach it? These questions seemingly will almost always tell you more than what subject it is that you like or don't, or are even good at or not (although the latter is more debatable. BTW, INTPs are Dominant thinking (Ti) to be technical, and INTJs are dominantly intuition (Ni). Having more % preference in one category over another does not make for overall functional dominance in cognitive processing -- Definitely INTP |

A17 It's been my experience that NFs are usually the ones that go for literature and journalism, and NTs tend to study more in the math and science field. But you may be an INTx. I have an INTj who loves literature. There is a correlation between type and interests, but being a certain type does not assign you to particular interests. -- ISFj Courtney |
A18 I've read everything Nietzsche wrote. (I'm going for my Ph.D. in Psychology right now.) I cannot see how there is any doubt that he started out as an INTP and evolved into an INTJ by the end of his life. He went from doubting what he had been taught to knowing damn sure he was right (judging) and laying the brutal truth out in a methodical manner regardless of any harm it would cause him (typical INTJ trait.) -- Anonymous |
A19 I am an INTP and my major is Graphic Design with an emphasis in Illustration, and I'm trying to a novel (but I'm an INTP, notoriously have never finished any kind of writing ever, though I write extensively, so...you know, it probably won't get published). You're not the only one who chose a creative path. Personally I've always adored science, and had an off and on relationship with math, but my thought in going into art was that 1) I love to draw and I'm really good at drawing 2) most of science, unless you're teaching it, is basically running tests, which is BORING, I'm more interested in knowing the science, rather than practicing it. It should be noted that I went into practical Art, though. I mean I like to draw things but I'd rather be given something to go on, I have roughly zero interest in say having a gallery or making my own art. -- An INTP female |
